The First 10 Seconds - First Impressions are Lasting

You only get one chance to make a first impression. People will size us up in the first 10 seconds of meeting us. Here are some ways that you can make a great first impression every time.

The Connecting Smile. Don't flash an immediate smile when you meet someone. Look at the other person's face for a second. Pause. Try to understand their persona. Then bring a warm flooding smile to your face.

Constant Eye Contact. This shows great interest in the other person, and a sign of intelligence. This is effective for men/women and women/women. Be a little limited with men/men. Added facial expressions show interest.

Great Posture Creates a Great Image. Make good posture a habit. Practice makes perfect.

Treat Everyone Like an Old Friend. Zig Ziglar said, "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. When meeting someone, imagine he or she is an old friend - someone you have respect for and care about. Your body language will reflect your feelings.

Pay Attention to Results. In your conversation, notice how the listener is reacting to what you are saying. Pick up on their body language.

Match the Mood. This is the time for matching a person's physiology. Notice their tone and speech patterns. Also notice if the other person seems happy, bored, tired etc.
